Resilience is like our emotional backup plan.

Do you know one of the most powerful (and unexpected!) ways to motivate yourself?

A backup plan!

If you think about it, backup plans are everywhere in our lives. Our cars have seatbelts, airbags, and hazard lights. These things don’t mean that something will go wrong, but they’re there in case something does.

Resilience is like our emotional backup plan. It’s great to take risks, try new things, and challenge ourselves, but if we don’t believe that we’ll be okay if things don’t go as planned, it’s tough to keep taking risks.

This sense of resilience is crucial for girls. Self-esteem and confidence often drop at 9 years old, meaning they don’t feel secure that they’ll be able to recover if something doesn’t work out.

Without resilience, it’s extremely difficult for girls to motivate themselves to take risks. And that makes complete sense!

If you weren’t sure that your seatbelt, airbags, or hazard lights were going to work, driving would be a lot more stressful.

When girls have that strong sense of resilience, they can start to believe in their ability to try things, AND in their ability to bounce back if something doesn’t work out the way they expected.

Whether your daughter is still developing her sense of resilience or could use some help in rebuilding it, at Wholehearted Girls we offer the ideas and strategies to make strength a part of her everyday life.
